22.06.2026
The Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra participated in the implementation of a professional educational event focused on beekeeping, social entrepreneurship, and social farming, held from 12 to 14 June 2026. The event took place in the village of Byšta as part of the international project SBEES – Microfinancing Social Businesses in Apiculture for Sustainability in Rural Communities.
Experts from the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development, in cooperation with the EKOTREND Slovakia Association of Ecological Agriculture, prepared a programme addressing current topics in beekeeping, the social economy, and the development of social enterprises in rural areas. The training combined theoretical knowledge with practical activities, including demonstrations of the production of products made from beeswax.
The SBEES project aims to support education in the fields of social entrepreneurship, innovation, financial literacy, and beekeeping, with the goal of creating new opportunities for the development of rural communities and strengthening their economic and social sustainability. The cooperation between partners from Slovakia and Cyprus also provides a valuable platform for the exchange of experience and good practices in the areas of social innovation and regional development.
During the three-day programme, participants discussed the potential of beekeeping as a tool for social entrepreneurship, ways of supporting local communities, and the benefits of social farming for rural regions. The discussions were rich in new ideas, practical experience, and inspiring suggestions for the further development of this field.
The event highlighted the importance of connecting academia, professional practice, and local communities in the search for innovative solutions for sustainable rural development, which is among the long-term priorities of the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra.
