04.08.2025
The Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development (FESRD) successfully hosted the final presentations of the international case study IMRD – International Master of Science in Rural Development on July 18, 2025, in Nitra.
The event marked the conclusion of a four-week intensive academic module (June 23 – July 18, 2025), during which international student teams explored the topic "From Local Brands to Sustainable Regional Development." The focus was on identifying opportunities to strengthen local branding as a tool for sustainable development in Slovak regions, emphasizing the connection between regional policy, the quality of local products, and tourism.
Field research took place in the Nitra and Banská Bystrica regions. Guided by academic staff from FESRD, students collaborated directly with local stakeholders, producers, and regional development experts. Their findings contributed valuable insights and concrete proposals aimed at improving the visibility and marketing of local brands and aligning them more closely with regional development needs.
The final presentations at FESRD were attended by practitioners, local actors, and experts who engaged in meaningful discussions with the student teams. Their participation further enriched the exchange between academic theory and real-world application.
Upon successful completion of the case study, all participating students received certificates, fulfilling one of the core requirements of the joint IMRD master’s programme, which connects universities across Europe and globally.
The IMRD case study is organized annually and represents a unique platform for bridging academic training with hands-on experience. It fosters knowledge exchange, supports professional networking, and encourages the development of innovative solutions for the sustainable development of rural areas.
