The project ProLand – “EU Partnership to Protect Agricultural Land in the Face of Climate and Environmental Challenges. Caring for Future Generations” (No. 2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000252809) continues with a series of professional and practical activities connecting academic and research partners from five European countries.
From 20 to 22 October 2025, the Roma Tre University in Italy hosted an international conference and workshop, attended by all partner institutions:
- Poznan University of Life Sciences (Poland),
- University of Almería (Spain),
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine),
- Roma Tre University (Italy), and
- Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (Slovakia).
The local coordinator of the ProLand project at the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development (FESRD) of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra is Prof. JUDr. Lucia Palšová, PhD. The faculty was represented at the conference and workshop by Ing. Zuzana Bohátová, PhD. from the Centre for International Programmes of FESRD.
Discussion on Land and Sustainability
During the three-day event, participants focused on current issues and challenges related to agricultural land in the partner countries and within the European Union. Discussions addressed topics such as:
- legal and economic aspects of land protection,
- sustainable land management, and
- the impacts of climate change on agricultural productivity.
The main goal of the workshop was to strengthen international cooperation in the field of land, soil, and regional development research through the exchange of experiences and good practices.
Visit to FAO and the FAO MuNe Museum
The programme also included a visit to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in the centre of Rome. Partners had the opportunity to learn about the organization’s work and visit the newly established Food and Agriculture Museum [&] Network (FAO MuNe).
The exhibition presents more than 80 years of FAO’s achievements in fighting hunger, supporting sustainable agriculture, and protecting biodiversity. The museum serves as an interactive platform connecting science, policy, and the general public.
Practical Excursions and Field Inspiration
Participants also visited a farm focused on social farming, which combines agricultural production with the employment of disadvantaged groups, and a specialized garden of medicinal plants used in the production of tinctures, natural remedies, and cosmetic products.
These visits provided an opportunity to discuss innovative ways of using land as a source of sustainable development, social inclusion, education, and ecological production.
Upcoming Project Activities
The ProLand project will continue in the coming months with several planned activities, including:
- the Soil Day, to be held at FESRD in December 2025,
- a Summer School in Poznań (Poland) focused on sustainable land use in May 2026, and
- an International Conference in Almería (Spain) on innovative technologies in agriculture in October 2026.
All upcoming activities and project outcomes will be regularly published on the websites of the faculty and the ProLand project: https://proland.up.poznan.pl/
