Training Seminar for Employees of the Nitra Municipal Office
22.04.2026
On April 17, 2026, an expert training seminar for employees of the Department of Environment of the Nitra Municipal Office was held under the title “New Technologies and Trends in Waste Management and Governance.”
The seminar was delivered by Prof. JUDr. Eleonóra Marišová, PhD. from the Institute of Law, Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development. The content of the seminar focused primarily on systemic and legislative aspects of waste management, including the implementation of European Union law into national legislation and the role of Member States in ensuring the effective functioning of the system.
The lecture introduced the broader framework of EU environmental policy, particularly the European Green Deal and its objectives related to climate neutrality, emission reduction, and the transition to a circular economy. At the same time, key strategic documents of the Slovak Republic, such as Vision 2030 and the Environmental Strategy 2030, were presented, outlining the direction of national environmental policy.
The seminar also included the presentation of results from a comparative analysis of waste management systems in Slovakia and Italy (Sicily), focusing on waste collection systems, levels of sorting and recycling, technological solutions, as well as public behaviour and attitudes. Several challenges were identified, along with examples of good practices that may contribute to improving waste management at the local level.
Special attention was also given to current challenges in waste management, including insufficient infrastructure, the need to strengthen administrative capacities, and difficulties related to the practical implementation of legislation. The discussion highlighted the importance of active public engagement, increasing environmental awareness, and promoting sustainable habits.
The seminar was organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ project Waste Wise (No. 2024-2-SK01-KA210-VET-000260945), aimed at improving waste management practices through education, effective knowledge transfer, and the implementation of sustainable solutions.
We highly appreciate our cooperation with the Department of Environment of the Nitra Municipal Office and believe it will continue in the future through further joint activities and professional events.
